With bin bags and litter pickers in hand, David and I met with 5 volunteers by Bathgate’s Bog burn yesterday.  We had a refreshing mix of volunteers – including enthusiastic members of the community, community council members, an angler and a local councillor.

The plan was to work our way downstream from Morrisons car park to Meadow park, picking litter off the banks as we go.  However, it quickly became apparent that we wouldn’t make it as far as Meadow park due to the concentration of rubbish in the first section.  The main finds included plastic bottles and cans, some of which had clearly been there for several years.  One lucky volunteer picked up a fiver – of the modern plastic variety which I reckon would last much longer on the banks of the bog burn than the old plastic variety.  It was great to see the visible difference we made in just a couple of hours.

If you want to get involved, join us in Bathgate on the 3rd Thursday of the month.
